Roberts, Gene

Funeral Services for Eugene "Gene" Roberts, 88, of Corinth are set for 1 p.m. today at McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors Chapel with Dr. Greg Thomas and Bro. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will be at Forrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Roberts died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at his home. He worked at and then owned and operated NAPA Motor Parts with stores in Corinth, Booneville, Iuka and Selmer, Tenn., for more than 50 years until retiring in 2003. Born Oct. 23, 2928, he was a native of Hardin County, Tenn., and had lived in Corinth since 1944. A veteran of World War II, he served four years as a medic with the 781st Tank battalion attached to the 7th Army with combat in France, Germany, and Austria. He was a member of Tate Baptist Church where he served in various capacities when he was younger, including Sunday-school teacher, church clerk and church treasurer. He was a former member of the Iuka Rotary Club, Corinth Civitan Club and VFW. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Roberts and Sally Cresap Roberts, and four bothers, Garland, Porter, James and Charles Roberts.
Survivors include his wife Nelda Dillon Roberts of Corinth; a son, Greg Roberts and wife Pam of Corinth; a daughter Gay Roberts Box of Fairhope Ala.; grandchildren Creacy Box Bearfield of Reno, Nev., Lauren Roberts of Corinth and Oxford, and Kaitlyn Roberts and Blanton Box, students at University of Mississippi; a great-granddaughter, Madeline Drake Bearfield of Reno, Nev.; eight nephews; one niece and special friends Junior and Jackie Gray.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Ross, Vennie Horn Archer

Services for Mrs. Vennie Horn Archer Ross, 89, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the McPeters Chapel.
She died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday at Magnolia Hospital.
Burial will be in the Henry Cemetery with Ministers Charles Curtiss and Lennis Nowell officiating.
She was a former employee of the Weaver Pants factory, a former cashier of the Rehab Store at Whitfield Pharmacy, and a member of the Foote Street Church of Christ. She was a member of the Church of Christ for 75 years.
Survivors include two sons, Millard Archer, Corinth, and Orval Archer, Shreveport, La.; two step-sons, Collins Ross and Durell Ross, both of Corinth; several nieces and nephews; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Eley, Ed Archer, J.C. McCrary, Bruce Hammer, Walter Hodge and Charles Cahoon.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. today until time of service at McPeters.
McPeters Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
